Homestead exemptions remove part of your home’s value from taxation, so they lower your taxes. For example, your home is appraised at $100,000, and you qualify for a $25,000 exemption (this is the amount mandated for school districts), you will pay school taxes on the home as if it was worth only $75,000.
Sounds pretty amazing right? It used to be that we’d have to fill out a form, mail it in or even take it down to the Comptroller’s office and get it all taken care of; which you can still do! But, now with the beautiful thing of technology, there is an app for that! I know, pretty awesome right?
Below I have put together a step by step process of how to file with the app. But, if you don’t like phones, or aren’t a big fan of technology, reach out to me and I will personally walk you through how to fill out the paper version!
Step 1: Download the App from your respected App Store! Whether you have an Android or an iPhone, the app is on both making it easier for everyone to access it!
Step 2: Open the app and follow the instructions! It’s really that easy!
.
Step 3: It’s going to ask you for a copy of your Driver’s License, but all you need to do is take a picture and you are good to go!
Step 4: They’ll ask for your email address, but they won’t send you any crazy amount of emails! Just confirmations and a way they can possibly contact you.
Step 5: Accept the agreement!
Step 6: Sign! It doesn’t have to be pretty though!
Step 7: Submit! And just like that, you are done!
But, if you don’t like phones or just are not a big fan of technology in general, you can still fill out the paper version, I have attached a copy of the paper version to this email. If you need any help filling out the paper version, just reach out and I will walk you through it!
As always, if you need anything or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at all!
